Hi all,
By now, tools I provide for updating/analyzing sim BGL files will not be compatible with the newly released P3DV5 and you SHALL NOT use them with this version
Here is the situation and future projects
Navaids
Navaid record structure (NVX files and embedded terminal NDBs inside APX files) has not changed as compared to previous versions. The only differences are:
- An updated set is included but is still a bit outdated (and sometimes a bit off as compared to current AIRAC data especially as regards decommissioned navaids, navaid ranges and magvar data)
- TACANs records have been included (note that TACAN structure has not changed since P3Dv2 although they were not included in vP3DV2-V4 NVX files)
Considering it is unknown if provided navaid data will be updated in the future, I will propose, starting with AIRAC cycle 2006 an up to date set that will be limited to VORs, TACAN and enroute NDBs. Terminal NDBs (those included in APX files) will be untouched at the moment even if some are not anymore up to date (changed or decommissioned).
A dedicated installer will be available
ILSs
ILS record structure also didn't change.
Updating ILSs (addition, removal or changes) inside airport APX files whose structure changed is possible but will require some more time to ensure other elements are unchanged and fully functional.
I will not provide APX file replacements so as to comply with EULA/copyright rules
I will provide in due time a dedicated editor that will permit ILS/NDB edition inside APX files. That will be for personal use ONLY
Other airport data
Considering airport and runway records have changed, and most data have been properly updated, I will not provide by now any edition tool for them
MagVar
The magdec.bgl file seems to have an identical structure as compared to previous versions (since FSX).
The updated FSX/P3D 2020 file available on my site can be used instead, although I didn't test if there is any advantage replacing the default one
More later on. Take care and keep safe
